Our Ludgershall town council’s Community Emergency Plan can be downloaded here (pdf, link opens in new tab).
This Community Emergency Plan helps Ludgershall prepare for an emergency and reduce its impact. It has been put together by the town council’s Emergency Planning Working Group, who took a practical approach in developing a Community Emergency Plan that could effectively support our community in the event of an emergency in the Ludgershall Area.
Our plan takes a strategic approach, supporting the coordination of information and local resources that may be useful in an emergency situation; whilst acknowledging that an emergency of any significant scale would elicit a wider response from the emergency services and other agencies.
Our Town Mayor will take the lead in overseeing the Plan’s use in an emergency so anyone in our community can get involved.
Want to get involved?
Communities have a role to play in all emergency scenarios and can be involved at every stage. Ludgershall town council is therefore keen to hear from local residents and businesses that would be willing to act as Community Volunteers to be part of the Ludgershall Community Emergency Plan team. You will only carry out tasks you are comfortable with or trained to do.
We are looking for:
- Street Contacts – who can be called upon to check on vulnerable residents and report issues like blocked road drains or empty salt bins to Wiltshire Council
- Weather Wardens – whether it is a snow event or extreme heat can you help the community coordinate a response
- Responders – have access to equipment like a 4×4 vehicle, chainsaws, generators etc or trained first aiders and anyone with practical skills (e.g. farmers) that can be called upon.
- Places of Safety – If people need to be evacuated from their homes, a place of safety can provide shelter for a few hours to overnight stays; halls, schools, pubs would all be good options.

Emergency Kit – Home and Car
Have you got an emergency kit, which you may need when an emergency happens? You can make a smaller bag for your car as well.
Preparing an emergency kit in advance can mean that you have just what you need to make the emergency more manageable, or if you are evacuated, it can make your time away from home a lot more comfortable.
Your bag should be small enough to carry, and all members of your family (including pets), or those who live with you should know where to find it in your home.
Your kit should be stored near an exit to your home such as by the front door or under the stairs so it can be easily grabbed on your way out.
What you keep in your Emergency Kit is down to you; consider what is best suitable for yourself and members of your family.
A suggested list of items to keep in your kit is provided by Wiltshire Council and can be found on their website (external link, opens in new tab).
